Ras Kass

West Coast MC Ras Kass was born John Austin in Carson, California in 1973, but raised in Watts. A history and socio-political student, majoring in philosophy at USC, as a critically acclaimed lyrical artist/producer (Priority/Capitol/EMI), Ras Kass recorded with musicians ranging from Kanye West to Jay Z. Ras Kass has worked in a wide variety of roles including artist, tour manager, art department, A & R, and producer. Ras Kass was an original founding member of the of Patchwerk Records in Atlanta, GA and continues close ties with Patchwerk Studios which is still co-owned and operated by Curtis Daniel III. Ras Kass is considered one of the most prolific writers in modern music. The depth and breadth of his career experiences and contacts within the industry enable him to find and locate the superstars of the future.

Ras has been ahead of the hype many times advocating for, mentoring and promoting (then unknown) talent such as Ne-Yo, Teedra Moses, and even Eminem! He has a massive network of producers, artists, DJ's, promotors and industry insiders which enables him to connect people all over the globe.

Since a teenager Ras has been writing for multi-platinum artists such as DJ Battlecat, Coolio and Dr Dre. More recently for Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, David Banner and more. He has licensed songs to major motion pictures, national commercials and network television shows.
