Album remastered by Jean Pierre Chalbos La Source Mastering. Restored full mono. Cutting by
Benjamin Savignoni Translab.
Album compiled from different sources in the Chaplin archives in order to include as much music as possible: whenever possible from the restored M&E (music and effects) track — occasional sound effects occur, therefore, on certain tracks — but also from the full restored film soundtrack and even from rare, hitherto unrestored recordings, some of which we feared would be unusable. Thankfully, PIAS was able to restore the files in 2022, balancing recordings of varying volume and quality, and meticulously reducing crackling and overbearing hums.
Tracks 7-13 on Side B are from rare undated audio tapes conserved in the Chaplin archives. Track 7 on Side B is possibly the pre-production ballet sequence that Chaplin recorded in 1951, as mentioned in his autobiography and in this booklet.
Music and lyrics by Charles Chaplin, songs performed by Charles Chaplin Musique et paroles de Charles Chaplin, chansons chantées par Charles Chaplin Arranged by / Arrangements Raymond Rasch, Conducted by / Chef d'orchestre Keith Williams
ballet music recorded September 19-20, 1951, song vocals recorded October 18, 195l, song background November 6, 1951, all at Glen Glenn Sound Studio; Score recorded June 10 & 17, 1952, at RCA Studios.
