The album features seven songs on unpublished poems by Galen E. Hershey, written between 1946 and 1976 while a pastor-farmer in Pontiac, Michigan. His granddaughter, Catherine Hershey, only became aware of it after her death in the form of two machine-typed books. These poems, at once naive and strange, evoke existential questions, vertiginous troubles and the joy of lightness, they also speak of love and death.Gilles Poizat illuminates these poems with adventurous compositions, playing on the contrast of the instruments: from the simple voice / acoustic guitar to more electronic productions. Three instrumental passages punctuate the songs and articulate the construction of the album. The first two passages use guitar and electronics, the third is a long piece for trumpet and resonant guitar. As a whole, the album traces a quasi-initiatory journey through existential torment to the shores of love. The tensions relax, the times lengthen towards an almost calm sweetness.
