King Child are an alternative pop band consisting of Jean Prat, composer and multiinstrumentalist, and Quentin Hoogaerts powerful voice. Their first opus, Meredith, is a spaceship navigating between dark and ethereal atmospheres (Butcher), and bright and energetic places (Bending times). The whole album is unexpectedly breathed into shape around Claude Debussy's 1st Arabesque. The audacious, rich, and complex writing - reflected on the album cover art by Grgoire Dalle - takes the listener on an interstellar pop journey. The lyrics capture todays lingering smell of burnt melancholy and attempt to transcribe a fragmented and sometimes naive vision of loving, losing and being reunited. The enchanting vocal melodies, supported by the synths and the therevoxs strange tones, take us right in the middle of a John Carpenter movie. Impeccable beats. Everythingseems perfectly under control. In short, the mixture between the uncanny musical atmospheres and Quentin Hoogaerts husky and caressing voice cannot leave you unmoved. An absolute gem!
