Oumou is the most successful, popular and controversial female singer from Guinea. Working in a modem musical idiom mixed with rolling harmonies of the Maninka tradition, Wambara is aimed mainly at the dance floor. "From the opening shot of 'Ladiya' you're drawn into her spell by that strong rounded voice, the cloud-like harmonies, the circular patterns of the guitar and rhythms."
