How It Looks, How It Is is a scorching hunk of speed raunch that works in the classic way that Ramones records work: it's unrepentant punk rock. Nuance is thrown out the window, and this is full-bore, head-on, manic guitar panic. Pat Todd, with a voice that sounds like a high-speed drill when he sings in his limited upper register, gives that slightly psycho edge that made the Cowgirls a fairly intimidating proposition. Some of the tracks sound half-assed, but most of this raunch and rumble (especially "D.I.E. in Indiana" and "When It All Comes Down") is prime (and primal) scorch. Enjoy.
