ABOUT THE ALBUM
The very first inspiration for DANCING IN THE DARK came to me on a plane in 2020. I had not even yet finished searching for freedom, but through creating that album, I started dreaming about where I would like to go next.
I wanted to embark on an exploration of what I call 'future folk': time codes, antidotes to dissonance, new soundscapes & topics, tuned backing vocals and synth bass, all intertwined in a folk foundation. I didn't expect the added Latin influence in some tracks, which is the beauty of letting an album grow and change along the way.
I've never looked to recreate records, so I would like you to be able to add this new one to a growing collection that has already spanned nearly 10 years.
I hope these love/protest stories lift you up and keep you together even when tides of change encourage us to do the opposite.
Into the future, we sail.

Light up a CAMPFIRE on the days your lights are low, you've been a lighthouse, and you don't know how much we need you. I BELIEVE everything will be alright, because heart covers the distance over everything that's missing, and when I get your TATTOOS, I know I will see things different; that there ain't need for any GREAT DIVIDE, because I belong, and so do you, and THE SUN & THE SEA always work it out.
Even in a CINNAMON DAZE, when you're caught up in a centrifuge, keep your head up while DANCING IN THE DARK; remember that we are passing on through, like HALLEY'S COMET on fire; and I'M SORRY that I let you down, but your heart is strong, your head is strong and your spirits is strong; I know and you know things will get better. So, sing these songs like the last time, over and over, don't get it stuck in a REWIND.
Fight for your rights, make love, and write your poetry too.

ABOUT THE PHOTOS
These photos were taken on the South East & North West coastlines of Australia, between April & July 2022.
One is close to home, in QLD, and the other is across the country, in WA.
I deliberated a lot about the visuals for this record, and as the album bloomed, I was looking for something that would tell a story of light and dark. For me, the yin & yang of shadows and the expansiveness in these beautiful sand dunes capture just that.
The inside photo was taken on a surf/camping trip during the final stages of making this album. I'm truly blown away by the story it tells. It sums up a vision, both literally & sonically, that I had almost two years ago that inspired what I call 'future folk'.
Much like the songs, these beautiful photos emerged in the tapestry of my most visceral life experiences.
I hope these songs accompany yours.
