Gothenburg Symphony Chorus

Swedish choir was founded as Gothenburg Concert Hall Choir in 1917 by Elsa Stenhammar.

Stenhammar was a driving force in the turn of the century's choir life in Gothenburg and the choir members came largely from the Elsa Stenhammar Choir and the driving school she founded in 1916 on behalf of the Gothenburg Orchestra Association. Elsa Stenhammar became the choir's first rehearsal and on December 8, 1917, the choir debuted with Beethoven's Choir Fantasy with Elsa Stenhammar's cousin Wilhelm Stenhammar as pianist. She led the choir until 1935 when she resigned after a conflict with the orchestra association's conductor Tor Mann.

The choir was later transformed into a non-profit association, but the choirmaster is employed by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
