Gorgeous and hypnotic Tanzanian dance music. Though they were one of Tanzania's most beloved and innovative bands in the heady years leading up to the nation's independence, Kiko Kids Jazz have somehow never had a full-length record released. Electric, tremoloed mandolin snakes through upbeat dance numbers, the poetic strains of Arabic and Taraab music, the rhythms of central Tanzania, and the mellow sway of the Swahili coast. Mississippi worked with bandleader Salim Zahoro on this release, but unfortunately he passed away last month at age 85. They dedicate this album to him, and they know he was proud to have it released for new audiences.
