Ace
UK label; also appears as "Ace Records" or "Ace Records & Tapes". For counterfeits, please use Ace.
Label Code: LC 5982 / LC 05982
Label conceived in the 70s by Ted Carroll, who started out selling secondhand 45s on a London market stall. He was joined by Roger Armstrong and together, they set up Chiswick Records. They were later joined by record fanatic, Trevor Churchill. Towards the end of the 70s, they were releasing work by a series of "pub rock" bands. With the arrival of the 80s and MTV culture, Ted, Trevor and Roger decided to focus on the reissue market. It was at this stage that the label name came into being; with the permission of John Vincent of Ace Records, Mississippi, Ace Records of Camden Town was born.

Ace has cemented its reputation in the reissue market, with many sub-labels catering to a wide range of musical styles, including: R&B, blues, soul, funk, jazz, rock 'n' roll, folk, country, punk, rockabilly, psychobilly, cajun, zydeco, and world music.

Starting in the mid-80s, Ace frequently licensed Kent, Modern Records and other Bihari Brothers labels releases. In the early 90s, they acquired these labels outright and have since used them to reissue some of the original releases and new compilations in a variety of formats.

Since LP releases have been frequently reissued under the same cat#, but with a different label design, submissions should include both an indication of which label design is present and be supported by images.
