Bacillus Records

Bacillus Records
German label.
Label Code: LC 4297 / LC 04297.
Established by producer Peter Hauke and his Popo Management in 1970. Initially based in Neu-Isenburg (south of Frankfurt) Bacillus released its first batch of records in early 1971. The first 10 LPs and 7 singles were distributed by German Philips (although not stated so on the releases) and had white base labels with black print only.
In late 1971, after the label had some minor success, they decided to seek-out a more sympathetic and dedicated partner and signed up with the local Frankfurt company Bellaphon as manufacturer and distributor, debuting with Nektar's "Journey To The Center Of The Eye". The Bellaphon distributed Bacillus LP label had a distinctive multicolour base and Bellaphon BLPS catalogue numbers.
Still under the auspices of Peter Hauke, but with the muscle of Bellaphon, Bacillus developed into one of the leading progressive / Krautrock labels in Germany, with a roster of successful international acts like Nektar, Omega and Krokodil, as well as home grown German talent.

Later, the experimental character of Bacillus expanded to the disco segment. Ganymed were to transport the Krautrock image on the dancefloor. After a rather quiet period with new hard rock, disco and heavy metal releases, and CD reissues of the Bacillus Records back-catalogue in the 1990s, they started again to release new artists and limited edition reissues in 2012. Since then the main focus of the label basically is rock music made in Germany.
