US soul jazz label founded by Creed Taylor in July 1971, as a subsidiary label of CTI Records.

The label was formed in order to showcase more 'commercial' artists than CTI, with a focus on R&B jazz and blues-oriented jazz music.

The label became inactive around 1979, was revived again in 1983 with from Grover Washington, Jr., again in 1993 with the soundtrack , and finally with the acid-jazz project in 1996. Many of the label's titles remained in print in Japan with the I Love Kudu series.
